A New Beginning

Isha Sharma

The night after receiving her selection email, Isha lay in bed, staring at the ceiling with a smile that refused to fade. This was just the beginning. A step towards her dreams.

"I did it. But now, it's time to prove myself."

Excitement buzzed in her veins as she mentally mapped out her future. She thought about how she would manage her new responsibilities—her job, her dreams, and most importantly, supporting her family.

"Maa and Papa have done so much for me. Now it's my turn to take care of them."

She imagined buying gifts for her parents, helping with household expenses, and even saving for her future. The thought filled her with determination.

Just as she was lost in thought, a knock came at her door.

"Di, socho mat, so jao. Nahi toh kal bhi late ho jaogi," Arjun's voice came from the other side, followed by a chuckle.

Isha rolled her eyes but smiled. "Goodnight, Arjun!"

"Goodnight, late latif di!"

She sighed, shaking her head as she finally let sleep take over.

---

The First Day of Work

Morning arrived with a loud, familiar sound—her alarm.

The entire house stirred awake.

From his room, Arjun groaned loudly. "*Di! Why is your alarm ringing like a fire siren?!*"

Mr. Sharma sighed. "*Not again...*"

Her grandmother, stretching in her bed, muttered, "*Yeh ladki kabhi nahi sudhregi...*"

Yet, the one person still sleeping peacefully was none other than Isha herself.

Her mother, Mrs. Sharma, walked into her room, shaking her head. "*Utho, Isha! It's your first day at work!*"

No response.

After several failed attempts, Mr. Sharma finally intervened. "Let me handle this," he said, stepping into the room.

He leaned down and said in a firm voice, "*Isha, you’re getting late for your first day at the office!*"

Isha's eyes shot open. "*What?!*" she exclaimed, sitting up in a panic. "*Why didn’t you wake me up earlier?!*"

From the door, Arjun smirked. "*We did. Multiple times. But someone sleeps like Kumbhkaran.*"

Isha threw a pillow at him. "*Shut up, Arjun!*"

He dodged it easily. "*Tch, tch. Such aggression early in the morning. What will your office people think?*"

Ignoring his teasing, Isha rushed to get ready.

---

Chaotic Breakfast

Isha sprinted out of her room, hurriedly fixing her dupatta.

"Good morning, everyone!" she greeted breathlessly.

Her mother stood ready with her breakfast, while her father was already holding a glass of milk. "Eat quickly, you're already late," her mother said, feeding her a bite of paratha.

Her father did the same. "No skipping meals, understood?"

"*Maa, Papa, I can eat on my own—*" Isha tried to protest.

"But will you?" Arjun interjected with a smirk, stuffing a bite into his mouth.

Her mother sighed dramatically. "*When she was little, she was late for school, so we fed her breakfast like this. In college, same story—always running late.*"

Her father chuckled. "*And now, even after getting a job, she's still the same. If she gets married, her husband will have to feed her breakfast too.*"

Arjun burst into laughter. "*Poor jijaji, abhi se dukh ho raha hai uske liye!*"

Isha glared at him, but her mother shook her head with a fond smile. "*Bachi hai abhi.*"

Her father nodded in agreement, but his eyes shone with pride. "*Haan, ab bhi bachi hai.* But now, she's also our hardworking daughter, who is starting a new journey."

Arjun, despite his teasing, leaned forward and ruffled her hair. "*Good luck, di. Don’t mess up your first day!*"

Isha, feeling a mix of embarrassment and happiness, hugged them all tightly.

"I promise, I'll make you all proud," she whispered.

Her mother caressed her head. "*You already have, beta.*"

With that, Isha grabbed her bag, took one last hurried bite, and dashed out the door—ready to face her first day of work.

---

Isha stepped out of her house, excitement buzzing in her veins. Today was her first day at work, a new beginning, and she wanted everything to go smoothly. She got into the cab, gave the address, and leaned back, mentally preparing for the day ahead.

The roads were bustling with early morning traffic, but she remained calm—until suddenly, the car slowed to a complete stop.

She frowned and looked around. Cars stood still, honking filled the air, and people were peering out of their vehicles, visibly irritated.

"Driver bhaiya, kya hua?" she asked, checking her watch anxiously.

The driver sighed. "Madam, koi bada politician aa raha hai, isliye road block ho gaya hai. Bas 10 minute ka rukawaat hai."

Isha's eyes widened in frustration. "*What?!* Just because some politician is passing, the whole road has to stop? Yeh bhi koi baat hui?"

She crossed her arms, tapping her foot impatiently. "I swear, politicians think they own the country. Sabko pareshan karna inki aadat ban chuki hai. Aam insaan ki koi value nahi hai!" she muttered under her breath.

The driver chuckled. "Madam, aap toh bahut gussa ho gayi."

"Gussa toh aayega na! Pehle din pe hi late ho gayi toh kya sochenge office wale?" she huffed.

She kept glancing at the time, growing more anxious with each passing second. Her mind raced—*what if they think I’m irresponsible? What if I lose my job before even starting it?*

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the roadblocks were lifted, and traffic began moving.

"Chaliye, bhaiya, jaldi!" she urged.

The driver nodded and sped up, but Isha was still impatient. "Itna slow kyun chala rahe ho? Koi bailgadi chala rahe ho kya?" she snapped.

The driver laughed. "Madam, speed breaker bhi hota hai raste pe!"

Isha sighed but stayed quiet, watching the time nervously.

The moment they reached her office building, she checked the clock—*one minute before time!*

Letting out a relieved sigh, she quickly paid the driver, fixed her dupatta, and took a deep breath. Composure, Isha. You got this.

With her head held high, she stepped inside for her first day at work.

---

As Isha stepped into the office building, the cool air-conditioning hit her, calming her nerves a little. She took a deep breath and walked towards the reception.

The receptionist, a young woman with a pleasant smile, greeted her. "Good morning! How can I help you?"

"Good morning! I am Isha Sharma. Today is my first day," Isha replied, trying to sound confident despite the slight nervousness in her voice.

The receptionist checked a list and nodded. "Yes, Ms. Isha. Please head to the 5th floor. Your team leader will meet you there."

Isha thanked her and stepped into the elevator. As the doors closed, she exhaled slowly. Okay, first impression matters. Stay confident.

When she reached the 5th floor, she was greeted by a man in his early thirties, wearing formal attire and a professional smile.

"Welcome, Isha! I’m Aman Verma, your team leader. It’s great to have you on board."

"Thank you, sir. I’m excited to start," she replied with a polite smile.

Aman guided her through the floor, introducing her to colleagues, showing her the break room, and finally leading her to her desk.

"This is your workspace. You’ll be handling reports and assisting in some upcoming projects. I'll send you details soon. For now, take your time to settle in."

Isha nodded, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. She sat at her desk, powered up her computer, and took a moment to absorb everything. This is real. My first job. My first step towards independence.

---

As she familiarized herself with the company system, a girl from the next desk leaned over with a friendly smile.

"Hey! You’re new, right? I’m Priya."

"Hi! Yes, Isha Sharma. Nice to meet you," she replied warmly.

"Don't worry, first days are always overwhelming, but you’ll get used to it. And if you need help, just ask me!" Priya offered.

"Thanks! That really helps," Isha said, feeling relieved.

As the day progressed, Isha received her first task—reviewing reports and organizing data for an upcoming project. She focused intently, wanting to make a good impression.

---

When lunchtime arrived, Isha stretched and glanced at her phone—several missed calls from her mother. She quickly texted back: Maa, sab acha chal raha hai. Don’t worry!

She joined Priya and a few other colleagues in the cafeteria. The conversation was light-hearted, mostly about office gossip and general introductions.

Just as she was about to take a bite of her food, she overheard a conversation from the next table.

"Did you hear? That politician Rudraksha Singh Rajawat is all over the news again," a colleague said.

Isha's ears perked up. That same politician who made me late today?

"I know, right? He’s powerful but super strict. No one dares mess with him," another added.

Isha rolled her eyes and muttered, "*Huh, as if the world revolves around politicians.*"

Priya laughed. "You don’t like politicians, do you?"

"Not at all! They do nothing but create trouble for common people," Isha huffed.

The conversation moved on, but a strange feeling lingered in her chest.

---

By evening, Isha had completed her first assignment successfully. Aman praised her work, making her feel proud.

As she packed up to leave, she smiled to herself. The first day wasn’t bad at all.

---

After a long, exhausting first day at work, Isha finally reached home. The moment she stepped inside, the comforting aroma of home-cooked food and the familiar warmth of her family made her smile.

Before she could even set her bag down, her mother rushed toward her.

"Meri beti aa gayi!" her mother said excitedly, cupping her face. "Kaisa tha pehla din?"

Isha grinned. "Maa, bohot achha tha! Mujhe sab samajh aagaya, aur Aman sir bhi bohot supportive hain."

Her father, who was reading the newspaper, lowered it and smiled. "Mujhe pata tha meri beti apni pehli job bhi perfect tareeke se karegi!"

Just then, her younger brother Arjun walked into the room, stretching his arms after his gym session. "Oh ho, madam aayi office se! Lagta hai aaj koi duniya jeet ke aayi hai!" he teased, smirking.

Isha rolled her eyes. "Haan toh? Tu jealous hai kya?"

Arjun scoffed. "Main aur jealous? Pagal mat ban!"

But before he could say another word, Isha smacked him lightly on the shoulder. "Vaise, tune mera phone uthaya tha? Maa ne kaha tu ghar pe tha."

Arjun smirked. "Haan uthaya tha, lekin bas screen pe naam dekh ke kaat diya!"

Isha gasped dramatically. "TU BILKUL AJEY DEVGAN WALA VILLAIN HAI!"

Their parents sighed. "Chalo, bas karo ab! Tum dono har baat pe ladna start kar dete ho," their father said.

Arjun grinned. "Main toh bas office wali didi ko chidhane aaya tha!"

Isha huffed but couldn't hide her smile.

Dinner

After freshening up, Isha joined her family for dinner. The dining table was filled with delicious food, and the warm family chatter made her feel at ease.

Just as she was taking a bite of roti, her mother casually said, "Waise Isha, kal subah jaldi uth jaana."

Isha raised an eyebrow. "Kyun Maa?"

Her father smiled. "Kal hum sab Minisha ki shaadi mein ja rahe hain!"

Isha’s eyes widened in excitement. "KYA?! Minisha di ki shaadi? Omg, yesss! Main toh bohot dino se unse milna chahti thi!"

Her mother chuckled. "Haan, isliye raat zyada der tak jagne ka plan mat banana!"

Isha nodded eagerly, already planning what to wear.

After dinner, she rushed to her room and immediately picked up her phone. She quickly dialed her best friend Rishita.

"Hello, Rishu!"

"Isha! Tell me everything! First day kaisa tha?" Rishita asked excitedly.

Isha giggled. "Bohot accha tha, par soch, subah traffic mein fas gayi thi ek politician ki wajah se!"

"Haha, kitni filmy life jeeti hai tu!"

They talked for a while before Isha said, "Achha sun, Minisha di ki shaadi hai kal!"

"What?! Omg, enjoy karna! And please bohot saari photos bhejna!"

"I will, I will!" Isha laughed.

After ending the call, she quickly texted Rakshit, her other best friend: Kal Minisha di ki shaadi hai! Main bohot excited hoon!

Rakshit replied instantly: Wah, wah! Dance mat bhoolna!

She smiled, sent a few more messages, and then placed her phone aside.

As soon as she lay down, exhaustion took over.

"Aaj ka din perfect tha... kal aur bhi special hoga," she thought as sleep embraced her.
